AVIF to PNG converter

Turn AVIF images into PNG files, with transparency kept. Your images never leave your browser.

Convert to
90

Your images stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and this page cannot send files anywhere.

How it works

  1. Drop your files onto the box above, or choose them from your device.
  2. Pick the format you want, and a quality or largest size if you need one.
  3. Download each file, or all of them together in one ZIP.

About this converter

PNG is widely supported and keeps transparent backgrounds. Converting an AVIF to PNG gives you a file almost any program can open, though it will be larger. Your browser must be able to read AVIF, which any recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari can.

Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser using code on this page, and the page is set up so that it cannot make network requests. You can check this yourself: after the page has loaded, switch off your internet connection and it keeps working.
Does converting reduce quality?
JPG and WebP are lossy formats. At quality 90 the difference is rarely visible, and you can raise it for more detail at the cost of larger files. PNG is lossless, but converting an image that was already compressed as WebP or AVIF cannot bring back detail that compression removed.
What happens to transparent areas?
PNG and WebP keep them. JPG cannot hold transparency, so transparent areas are filled with the colour you choose (white by default).
What about metadata such as camera details or colour profiles?
It is not carried over. The converted file contains only the picture.
Which browsers work?
Any recent Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari can read WebP and AVIF files. Creating WebP files works in most browsers, including Chrome and Edge, and the option switches off when your browser cannot do it. If a file will not open, update your browser.
How do I make images lighter for my website?
Choose WebP, set the quality to around 75 to 85, and pick a largest side such as 1600 or 1200 pixels. Images are only ever made smaller, never enlarged. Compare the result with the original before you publish.
Why can I not convert to AVIF?
Most browsers cannot create AVIF files yet, so this page reads AVIF but does not write it.
Is there a limit on files?
There is no upload limit because nothing is uploaded. Very large images may fail to convert on phones with little memory.
